The Little Blue truck is a favourite in our house. It basically has all the important things such as trucks, horses and cows while also telling a very beautiful story about friendship.

If you do not already have one Little Blue truck book in your house, grab your copy today. Your little one will love pointing out all the animals and copying the sounds.

Since Valentines Day is around the corner, we are focusing on friendship and recognising emotions. The Little Blue truck is a great way to talk about this to younger readers and incorporating play is a great way to get them to explore these themes.

Coming up with a colour scheme for the play doh was a bit difficult since there are so many options but we decided on green red and brown. We incorporated some loose parts which consisted of beads, rocks and moss.

We found the cutest little blue truck on Amazon and Master N was so excited that it looked exactly the blue truck, which was a bonus.

What we used in this play tray

  • Farm Animals
  • Moss
  • Wooden Beads and Sticks
  • Decorative Limestone
  • Kmart Serving Tray

Never done a play tray before?

If you have not done a play tray before try to incorporate a sensory base or filling and loose parts. Remember to always supervise when using play trays as some of the loose parts may be a choking hazard. You can incorporate language development by talking about the objects or retelling the story in the book. If your toddler seems bored, try showing them how to do small activities. Sit with them and build with the play doh or roll balls with it. They will soon follow your lead.
